Noise At Work Regulations 2005
Hello and welcome to our website here
at the Noise at work consultancy, where we can help you with all your
noise at work solutions. The control of Noise at Work
Regulations 2005 came into effect for all industry sectors in the United
Kingdom on 6th April 2006. The main aim of the regulations was to ensure
that employees hearing is protected from excessive noise in the
workplace which could result in complication later in life such as
hearing loss and damage to the ears that could result in conditions such
as tinnitus which is the condition of a permanent ringing in the ears.
The Control of Noise at Work
Regulations 2005 replaced the old Noise at Work Regulations 1989 when
they were passed and came into effect. The current regulations have set
the level at which employers must provide hearing protection and
dedicated hearing protection zones at a level of 85 decibels, and the
level at which employers must assess the risk to employees health and
hearing is now set to 80 decibels, as an employers you must also provide
information and training. The latest regulations also see an exposure
limit that is set at a value of 87 decibels, this takes into account the
reduction of exposure that can be provided by wearing hearing protection
and above which staff and employees should not be exposed.
The Noise at Work Regulations 2005
and the previous 1989 regulations are based on those of the European
Union Directives that require similar basic laws throughout the Union,
to protect employees from the risks that are associated with
progressive interaction with noise. The Noise at Work Regulations 2005
saw changes to the old laws and the introduction of new requirements to
help safeguard workers in the workplace. The most notable change saw the
reduction in noise levels at which employers must take action to protect
their staff as well as hearing checks for those that are exposed to
levels regularly above 85 decibels.
